So, turns out...Jad is totally a Genius--he just got word he's been named a MacArthur Fellow. Go Jad! Team Radiolab salutes you! Now hurry up and finish the podcast so we can parade you around and celebrate!
Kircher was born before his time. Today, he would be appearing on multiple cable channels telling us all about UFO's, alien astronauts and the mysteries of the pyramids!
You had me with "Numbers". I'm so proud to be a radiolab fan and supporter! Well deserved recognition Jad. You are a genious and us radiolab fanatics knew it all along. Your show makes my week! Kuddos to Robert too - you make an extraordinary pair.
This piece of news makes me emotional...I love Radiolab so so so much. This is like seeing something you really care for, a piece of your life be successful, and getting what it deserves....YOU GUYS are my INSPIRATIONS. Thank you so much...
Dear Jad, I am amazed, thrilled, and surprised that the McArthur foundation found you, agreed with me and everyone else, and has given you the award. I love Radiolab and everyone in my family, from age 7 to age 42, listens to it regularly. You guys rock! Jennifer
It just goes to show the extent of the deterioration of the English language when radio programme makers (however good) can in ANY WAY be described as genius! It is the same as ANY footballer being sited as a hero! Totally inept, inaccurate and insulting to anyone with half a brain.
Huge congrats, Jad! I knew you when! Well, actually, I didn't know you, but I felt that flush of feeling like I knew someone when the MacArthur award was announced. I'm glad you'll have the support to do more of your awesome work.
Congratulations Jad!!!!!!!! you and your genius are so deserving of this award. Radiolab is a breakthrough in radio, storytelling, and intellectual entertainment! Thank you for all your hard work and dedication, I am confident i speak on everyone's behalf when I say I am extremely appreciative.
Congratulations, Jad. You and Robert and the rest of your team consistently produce the best radio on radio. The award is well deserved. Thank you, so much, for telling stories, helping me learn, and enriching my life.
I'm very happy for your recent grant award. I know you will continue to do fantastic work, but maybe now you can instruct your volunteer army or credits-readers on the correct pronunciation of your name? :)
In any case, this award was richly deserved and is sure to be a welcome addition at your household. Thanks for all you do to keep us all informed.
I remember my first encounter with RadioLab, I was flipping through my local public radio options and I came across your show on the Periodic Tables. The image of Mendeleev sitting in the train car, the sound of the train car and trees wooshing by, the stack of cards being laid out and then magically the table being formed, it was so "genius" how you painted this picture of the "aha" moment in science and all I wanted to do was go back, pick up my kids and play this for them. Since then, I subscribed to your podcast and listen to your shows over and over again.
The moment I truly would love to share with you is when I hear the voice of my 8 year old daughter from the backseat of the car saying "dad, I can't hear it, can you turn it up a bit?" The way you present topics of science are so captivating for my children, you have opened their minds to so many new concepts, experiences, knowledge (I'm thinking of the episode on Good or the War of the World episode or even the subsequent piece on Zoe Keating). Your excitement listening to Zoe create her art was inescapable, palpable and true.
I must admit that one of my favorite parts of your broadcasts is listening to people mangle the pronunciation of your name. Now that is truly genius.
Congratulations to Jad!!! I texted my daughter, who introduced me to the show, at college to share the great news. We are so thrilled with this great achievement.
Congratulations, Jad! I was very excited to see you on the list this morning. You've brought innovation to a medium that is no longer new and your fresh approach reveals that, like headlines announcing Dewey defeats Truman, reports of radio's demise were premature.
I was so excited to hear this news. This is just the type of endeavor that needs to be celebrated. Radiolab helps us see our world in a new way. Congratulations!
I am so thrilled for you! Congratulations, Jad. You and Robert have such a marvelous and thought-provoking program. I always look forward to your new episodes and enjoy revisiting previous broadcasts. Well done!
Congratulations! You--and, of course, Robert--deserve this recognition for creating one of the great media programs available today. We all know that Radiolab is absolute genius. Now it will have to share.
Radiolab connected me to science in a way my high school teachers never could (and I had good ones). Most valuably, helped inform me about all the awesome & amazing stuff happening in neurobiology that helps me understand and live better with depression. Finally, the joy I experienced listening to City X, and Emergence and much of Jad's work with sound stick with me years later.
Congrats Jad, it couldn't be given to a better recipient.
Completely deserved and your true hankering for knowledge lets us all know this money went to the right person. Excited to see what projects this enables you to share with the world!
Whoo-hoo! The show is always amazing, and prompts me to try thinking outside the box. Nice to know that there is genius among us who has both a sense of wonder and humor. Go Jad!!!
Congrats, very deserving recipient. Keep up the good work. Will Robert have Genius envy? Nah, everyone knows he is a genius, who needs all that attention?
This is so right. Congrats, Jad, and to all who've made Radiolab the place to be. And to all you readers out there--how many of you secretly know that Radiolab has made you a more interesting person at parties and other gatherings? How many of you have heard someone say, "Is Radiolab the only thing you listen to?"
i did not know that jad was a musician/composer, but now nothing else seems as obvious. thank you, thank you for opening up the world of big questions in the most adult way and with the sincerest spirit of child-like wonder. i can't wait to share this show's genius with my own child and i hope to laugh, cry, wonder, and marvel at whatever comes next.
This was a nice bit of news to find in the NYT. Great work by everyone on the show - and radiolab is a wonderful example of a thinking person's radio. Always a joy.
Way to go Jad! I've listened to every single radiolab and love telling people about all the cool subjects you guys cover. Keep up the good work and don't forget about Robert.
Congratulations, Jad! I didn't know radio could sound like this when I first started listening. I hope all of the geniuses there (MacArthur or otherwise) keep up the amazing work!
I want to congratulate Jad as well as Robert and all the people behind the scenes who make the show happen. I'm with Mari from Westfield--I danced around the kitchen when I heard the news, too! Hurrah!
Well I do feel a bond with your work and have just heard a touch more genius from you both. before I properly congratulate you Jad. Let me paint a picture for you; I´m an Englishman living in Sweden and currently sitting by a river that flows by my work window on a lunch break ^^ I´m a designer with an emotional sponge for a brain yet your keeping it alive each day and I most dearly thank you for that. My two sons put me onto your pod cast and I have never looked back. You will never have to spent a knickle on marketing ^^ Congratulations are in order here. My heart goes out to you all. Thx

Well done Jad.
Does this mean you won't be needing any more listener contributions? :-P
I'm pretty sure even in the UK they spell "cited" with a C, Pedro.
to Pedro in UK
Hey Pedro you should direct your observations to the donor not to the recipient

Wow! No more listener contributions from me! Awesome though. And for science journalism! Who'da'thunk? No surprise it's to you though.
It just goes to show the extent of the deterioration of the English language when radio programme makers (however good) can in ANY WAY be described as genius! It is the same as ANY footballer being sited as a hero! Totally inept, inaccurate and insulting to anyone with half a brain.

Jad,
I'm very happy for your recent grant award. I know you will continue to do fantastic work, but maybe now you can instruct your volunteer army or credits-readers on the correct pronunciation of your name? :)
