  • I'm in no way an expert on any of this, but listening to Jad and Caleb Chung argue about life and whether or not a Furby has what constitutes life made me want to comment. It seems Caleb was arguing about what constitutes life in psychological terms--that the Furby can process and react to stimuli means it's alive. But that takes the processes of homeostasis, the ability to adapt, the ability to reproduce, and all those other biological traits that constitute life out of the equation. Eventually perhaps inorganic beings will be able to do these things, and their life will exist as something quite distinct from that of human beings or other evolved species on Earth, but a Furby being able to respond to stimuli surely doesn't qualify.
